12 Week Follow-up

What has been going well and what has frustrated me to date from recovering from my knee operation. I am still celebrating little victories.

In watercise class at the YMCA I was able to put a noodle under my foot by bending my leg up in week 10. I admit it was a struggle to stand up in the water and do it.

I was able to walk up and down a set of 5 stairs normally, very slowly and with a lot of thought behind it. When carrying anything I still do one step at a time.

Week 11 I could take off my compression socks without a extender. I am now at a 100 degree bend versus the 72 degree bend when I first came out of the hospital.

Last, I walked a 65 lb dog for the first time. I had to keep her on a short lease and for the most part I had no issues except in spots where the ground was uneven.

Week 12 I actually walked up a flight of stairs and then back down them after I finished my workout at the YMCA. I am able to ride a stationary bike with only some pain especially when pedaling forward. Pedaling backward is not as much of a problem.

What am I still trying to do. I still need to push the seat all the way back to get in and out of a car. I am looking forward to not having to do that.

I am finding I can sit normally now but I still cannot tuck my one leg under the chair. I am working to get back to walking at a normal speed.

Not that I was ever a speed walker but it is frustrating when people with walkers keep pulling away from you. Not really but it seems that way.

I want to be able to lift up my heel behind me and touch it in the watercise class. I also want to be able to lift my knee in front of me and touch it with the opposite elbow in one of the other watercise exercises.

Lots to keep working on and pushing myself. I am celebrating the little victories when I notice them happen. Have you had experiences with dealing with joint replacement? If so share some of your stories with us.

Patterson2Y2R should be a place you should visit. Share your stories and challenges.

I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by July 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.

If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
