Have you ever given the thought about how ageism stealthily slips into your conversations and attitudes? How about the term “Over the Hill.”
If you are mid-life or older and someone says you are “Over the Hill, “ what does it make you think. Does that mean that you are too old to learn new things?
Does that mean that you are declining and must now take a back seat to youth? Does that mean you can no longer run a race, or be gainfully employed?
I hope not. If you are a runner or a cyclist and someone asks you, what does it feel like to be “Over the Hill” you would laugh. You would respond that it feels great!
It means that all the hard work of climbing the hill is now past, you can coast, enjoy the scenery, catch your breath and reassess where you are and where you want to be.
It is the same in life, when you are “Over the Hill” you can now move forward to assess what life has to offer you and take advantage of it. You can strike out in a new direction and pursue new challenges.
Will there be other hills to climb, hopefully so, and that they are hills of your choosing. So, I encourage you as Julie Andrews did in the “Sound of Music” to Climb every mountain, search high and low, follow every by way, every path you know.
Climb every mountain, Ford every stream, Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream. I hope you take these words to heart as you embrace the third phase of life.
The third phase of life, the returning phase is your chance to seize that opportunity. Are you a symbol of hope and inspiration to those around you? Do you wonder what you can give to help those who follow you?
Do you wonder what you could do to make your life significant to someone else? If you have struggled with these questions and issues then Patterson2Y2R should be a place you should visit.
Share your stories and challenges. I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by June 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.
If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
