This is a membership Morsel from “Too Young to Retire”. Today we are continuing to talk about isolation and how you can fall into it very easily.
that they all of a sudden become anti-social, but the bulk of the people they have been associating with probably worked in the same company. When they retired, they no longer see them on a daily basis.
Add to that, they may have lost a spouse, relocated to a smaller house, or maybe they decided to move to a new city to live closer to their children. They could be struggling with depression, loss of purpose, and have lost the drive to go out.
When people move to a new city, they will not have the old It friends and people that they can socialize with. That is why it is always good to develop social networks that are outside of work. People who have the same interests as you and that you can relate to.
A lot of retiree’s will spend their vacation in the areas they are thinking of retiring in. They even buy condos and develop ties to the new community.
There are so many ways to choose you should never run out of options. It does require that you make a conscience effort to put your self out there and introduce yourself to other people. How can I do this once I am retired?
Join a social club that has groups that have the same interests as you. Are you a veteran, how about the V.F.W.. Are you a Catholic? What about joining a local B.P.O.E.. There is the Masonic Temple, and a lot of churches have men’s groups that meet on a regular basis. But you have to make the first move, and that is saying I am not going to sit on the couch waiting to die. Its all attitude and how you look at it.
