Today is Ground Hog Day! Do you remember the movie with that title from the 1990’s?
Its about a person who got caught in a time loop. Phil Conners (played by Bill Murray) gets assigned to cover a story he considers beneath him and reports on it half-heartedly.
He finds that he gotten trapped in the town, waking up to find everyday is February 2 again. Its Ground Hog Day and it doesn’t matter what he does that day. Whether he goes to sleep or kills himself he wakes up the next morning with everything repeating itself again.
He finally accepts this life and finds that he can use his position to help other people and make their lives better. That he can be relevant by preventing bad things from happening to other people.
It is in helping others that he finds what is meaningful to him and makes his life significant. The final scene he plays a piano concert at the local town ball, finds the girl of his dreams and when he wakes up the next morning it is no longer February 2nd but February 3rd.
He had the chance to experience life a hundred times doing something different, crazy things. It was not till he started to give back to those around him that he found meaning in his life and got his life back.
Deep thoughts for a comedy. Rent the movie and see if you agree. Unfortunately, we only get one life and we have to keep making corrections as we travel the highway life if we want to find significant in what we do.
We will talk about Crescendo Mentality next Friday, how Covey and Holler define success and how to improve your life. Make the most of life while you can for many people I know never got that chance.
Have you picked up the book “Live Life in Crescendo” by Covey and Haller and are you reading it? I will start talking about Chapter 1 on Friday. See you then.
I am still working on my course, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes. If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
