I am a big fan of Napoleon Hill and every week the Napoleon Hill Foundation sends out an email with a thought on one of his philosophies that he discussed in his book “Think and Grow Rich.”
This one was on fear and its effect in deciding how you are going to proceed in the future. It was his belief that indecision is the seedling of fear. It is from this seed that fear grows.
It was also his belief that doubt about what you are doing is the fertilizer that makes the fear grow. Indecision and doubt will make fear blossom and this fear will hold you back from achieving anything.
What are the top three fears: Fear of Poverty, Fear of Criticism and Fear of Ill Health. What is the bottom three? These are the Loss of Love of Someone, the Fear of Old Age and the Fear of Death.
Mark Twain is credited with the statement “I have had a lot of worries(fears) in my life, most of which never happened.” Fear is nothing more than a state of mind and these fears will eventually become self-fulfilling if you let them paralyze you into doing nothing.
Let us explore the first three fears as they apply to retirement. A lot of people when they retire cut back on everything fearing that they will make the wrong decision (indecision) and don’t want to do anything (doubting yourself) that could require them to spend money and they will end up forfeiting experiences that they may later regret.
Fear is a natural response so you have to learn to embrace it. A rational person should looks at the options, weight the perceived outcomes and then use what their gut is telling them, to make the final choice.
They know that there are ways to achieve what they want to do in life and if they pursue them with passion they can always find a way to do them. Napoleon Hill was a firm believer that what you believe you will achieve.
To state it another way all thought has a tendency to clothe itself in its physical Equivalent. The universe will support your beliefs, good or ill, and support you in achieving them.
Next Blog I will talk about the other three fears which are poverty, criticism and Ill health. If you have struggled with this question and others then go to Patterson2Y2R,com/blog should be a place you should visit to share your stories and challenges.
