The Second week was a lot like the first. Saturday and Sunday no P.T. but I did the exercises that the PT people had me doing. Mary Kay had brought in my piano books, so I practiced piano early in the morning.
Watching the Kentucky Derby was the weekend highlight. Sunday was shower day, and I had a new aide, she didn’t want to take me to the shower till after breakfast. She also wanted me to ride in the wheel chair and I said no, that I wanted to walk and I did.
Today I could actually wash myself standing up, and all she did was help with drying my feet and legs. I can get in and out of bed by myself, but it takes a lot of fore thought and effort.
The food is uninspiring in every way, though if you read the menu it sounds great. They gear their menu to no spices, no peppers, no peanuts or anything else someone could be allergic to. I have to admit they do make good oatmeal.
Come Monday I started getting back to my normal routine, I would get up, use the facilities, shave, brush my teeth and dress myself. Dressing myself involves sitting on the toilet and threading my bum leg into my underwear and pants than the good leg, standing up and adjusting everything.
I am able to work on my computer while sitting on the edge of the bed. I move my meal tray over to the dresser by putting it on the wheelchair, walking it over to the dresser and moving it on to the top of the dresser.
I can then walk back to bed using the wheelchair as a walker. I set up the computer and I am good to go. PT wants me to get my knee to bend to 90 degrees, which is literary a real pain. We continued to work at it.
I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by June 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.
If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
