Let’s write that vision statement

The first question I have is did you draw up a mind map? Maybe you wrote down the 12 pictures that show where you want to be? Then the next question is did you answer the questions that came after the first section?

A vision statement looks off into the future and focuses on the why question. A mission statement describes the what and how, and sometime includes the why answer. This is one of the reasons they get mixed up with each other.

The next question was as important as the first one. What did you not want the future to look like? Where do you not want to go in the next year.

This is what my mind map looked like

This is a scary question, but one you need to be cognizant of. The next several questions help you to start building your future vision.

If you wanted to write a personal vision statement it would be like the corporate vision, and the steps you use are similar. Let’s take some time to write what you think would be a vision statement for what your company and what your company does best to serve its clients.

Don’t worry if the message is perfect. This is only a start, and you can refine it later. Save it and come back to it in a week. You will probably want to revise it. Feel free to revise it because it’s yours. Does it talk about the market your company serves? Is it universal and not limiting?

It will give you guidance in writing a mission plan and then a business plan for the coming year. Those are topics we will take up in future sessions.

If so contact me and let’s revisit your vision and where you want your company to go.

I give seminars on creating or revisiting what your companies vision is and how to use it to craft your mission statement and your business plan on where you want to go.
