Participating in your Community

Updated: Jul 14, 2021

This is a membership Morsel from “Too Young To Retire." Today’s talk is about Community and how it is one of the five areas involved with Too Young to Retire.

Are you actively exploring and participating in the communities you support? This is something you can actively participate in long before you retire. Taken advantage of all these opportunities!

One such group is Rotary, you can volunteer for the board, take part to help guide its future and bring about change in your community? Have you gone to a district conference where each club shares what’s its successes are? How about attending the worldwide convention where you can meet and see the projects that are being taken care of world wide.

It is only your own self imposed limitations that will prevent you from helping them and enjoy making a difference in this world.

Another opportunity could be going on a mission trip. Before you retire you can go on a trip for a couple weeks with your church’s youth group. Go to Florida and help restore houses damaged by a hurricane or provide summer camp to low-income central city residences. Help maintain a homeless shelter or paint a community building.

How about Habitat for Humanity? This is another way to help your community by providing low-cost housing for those who are unable to afford a home. The family learns all the skills needed to maintain the house, while helping to reconstruct it for their use.

Community is an important part of Too Young To Retire. Through community we are providing an outlet to enjoy life through helping other people. With so many ways to choose you should never run out of options.
