My day revolves around PT and OT, and of course they are never at the same time. Then a nap after each session.
I had a zoom with some friends on Tuesday because I wanted to see if I could teach a class from the room on Wednesday using the sites internet. The internet was good and allowed me to teach my virtual class for one and one-half hours on Wednesday evening.
The staff couldn’t believe I was teaching a class that night. Wednesday the resident doctor came in and removed my bandages from my knee. The wound looks good, and there were no stitches that I could see.
The following day I had a virtual doctor visit with my Orthopedic doctors PA and showed her my wound using the computer camera. The PA seemed happy and signed off.
OT is having me practice getting in and out of a fixed bed, bathtub, doing upper arm exercises, going up and down stairs and getting stuff from a refrigerator. Thursday was another shower day.
I went at 6:45am because I was up, and the aide wanted to get my shower out of the way. I again walked there myself and I was proud that I was able to fully wash and dry myself.
I dried my feet by standing on a towel and wrapping it around my feet. I was able to flex my knee at 72 degrees on Thursday. I also learned that they were planning on discharging me on Friday.
I set up a PT evaluation the following week at an outpatient clinic. I also got a list of exercises from the rehab centers PT that I worked with to concentrate on during the following week while waiting for my new PT evaluation.
My OT on Thursday had Mary Kay bring up the car and I practiced getting into and out of it. The in-house doctor showed up and said he was giving me scripts for two weeks and that I should arrange a visit to my primary sometime in the next two weeks to get more pills.
Back on the phone again to make another doctor appointment. Friday May 10th I am being discharged today. Yeh! Mary Kay had brought a suitcase yesterday and I packed up all my books, cloths and miscellaneous stuff that had accumulated in the room.
I wheeled it over to the bed, opened it up and when I was done I slide it off the bed and rolled it off to the side. The social worker was suppose to come at 10 and finally at noon Mary Kay had to go looking for her.
She was running late, a couple of people didn’t should up and she was wearing multiple hats. I was declared a walker so I didn’t have to have an aide wheel me out of the facility.
Once the Social worker left, I said let us jump ship and we headed out to the car. I walked out using my walker, Mary Kay pushed to suitcase. My aide did walk out with us and put the suitcase in the car and made sure I got in safely.
I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by June 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.
