Sounds Sexual doesn’t it. It’s not. My operation wasn’t till April 24th but a lot that had to happen before then. April 10th I had Pre-admission testing at the hospital, fill out more questionnaires, blood tests and a CT Scan.
I found it amusing that the preadmission testing office seemed to be a half mile down a corridor. Great location for people struggling to walk.
I had my last dental appointment for the next 6 months. Apparently going to the dentist is a no no after the Knee operation. While waiting for the operation I was trying to finish up the classes I was teaching and getting in the students grades.
There were questions that I had wondered about. I wanted a nerve block, I hate pain. I wanted to spend the first night at the hospital, in case I had any issues afterward.
Also, there would be people around to help me. I wondered who sets up the PT afterward and was told that would be done by a social worker when I was discharged. I contacted my insurance company to get clearance to go to rehab afterward.
I found out I had 20 days of coverage. Silly me, I thought I would be out in 4 days rather than 14. I had to fill out a health care proxy before the surgery and I was supposed to give it to my primary.
That I did seven days before the surgery when I got my final clearance for the surgery from my primary. It was at that time I went over all my medicines and it was whittled down, all my supplements, vitamin, aspirin type stuff I had to stop.
The day of the surgery I could only take my blood pressure medicines. My surgery was at 10:00am and I had to be at the hospital at 7:00am. I went to admissions and striped down and put on the hospital gown and laid down on a gurney waiting for my turn.
They gave me a shot, and everything went blurry. I woke up later that day, having no idea about the time. Nothing hurt, which was good, I got up with lots of help and peed in the toilet, I refused to use one of those pee bottles.
Maybe there were too many people in the room, or maybe my pride, I am not sure. I had remembered my CPAP machine and used it that night. I slept well that night only being aware of being checked on for blood pressure and other vitals through the night.
The next day I was supposed to be transferred to the rehab facility about noon. My spouse and I waited. I practiced going to the bathroom. Finally, the van showed up at 6:00pm. I am glad we chose to have a handicap van take me.
I could have never gotten into my car. We got to the rehab facility and settled in for the night. My spouse headed, and I slept like a rock. I was still coming off the effects of the anesthesia.
I tried to write in my diary but my lines kept drifting down rather than across the page, so I gave up. My next post is about going through rehabilitation.
I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by June 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.
