This is a membership Morsel from “Too Young To Retire." Today’s talk is about Community and how it is one of the five areas involved with Too Young to Retire.
Community is an important part of Too Young to Retire. When you participate in your communities you will find that you enjoy life while helping other people. With so many way to choose you should never run out of options.
Have you ever thought about the many different types of community that you belong to? Just because you are retiring doesn’t mean you lose your connection with all the communities that you were a part of.
There is the city or town you live in. It has many people and many things going on at any one time. You may sometimes feel isolated when you first retire, that you have lost the community you have associated with for decades. No matter how big or small the general community is, you are still part of this community and many more communities. Think friends and family as the ones closest to you.
There are also special groups that you may belong to. It may be a Rotary Club, Toastmasters, Kiwanis, Scouts, or some other public group that exists to help the greater good through service to others while encouraging a code of conduct. Each one offers you an opportunity to be more involved in doing something that you love.
Maybe the community is a secular group like the zoo, Audubon center, the natural history museum or even a naval park. They service a purpose providing an outlet to those who are interested in other areas. Do you love history? How about animals or flowers.
Maybe it’s a religious group like a church, synagogue or mosque. Something that provides moral support and training to those who belong. They have groups with their groups that gives you many ways of associating with others and get suppose as you make the transition from work.
