As I continue to read the book by Covey and Haller I am struck by their thoughts how important balance is in each phase of life. They talk about life being a mission and not a career.
This means you don’t allow social media, the entertainment Industry, your neighbor, the butcher or anyone else to define what your definition of a successful life looks like.
It is different for different people. Your only yardstick is what aligns with your values and matches your definition of success.
It is important to discover your vision, mission and purpose in regards to your family, job & community. George Bernard Shaw said “Life is not about finding your self – Its about creating yourself.”
When people start their careers and get married they don't plan on sacrificing their marriage and family to their careers. The real issue is they didn't keep the purpose of their life front and center.
If you stay true to your purpose you will find you will never want to retire. You will always have something more you want to achieve.
Covey and Haller go on by talking about other people who have found their vision, mission and purpose. They didn’t fret about what others were doing or worry about keeping up with the Jones.
How about you. Are you content with how you have lived your life? Do you have direction when you get up in the morning? Then you are doing everything right.
If you wonder if there should be more than come and join in the conversation. Are you in the returning phase of life, do you wonder what you can give to help those who follow you?
If you have struggled with these questions and issues then Patterson2Y2R should be a place you should visit. Share your stories and challenges. I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life.
